  • Skill level: Must have passed the "Specified Skills Evaluation Test" or equivalent skills.

  • Japanese language proficiency Proof of Japanese language proficiency required for daily conversation and work through a Japanese language test.

  • Employment contract: A proper employment contract must be concluded with the accepting organization (company) in Japan.

  • Period of stay: Renewable every year, six months, or four months, up to a total of five years.

Renewal of residence status

Change of residence status

Characteristics of specific skilled nursing care

  • Must pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (N4 or above) and the Caregiving Skills Assessment Test

  • In the nursing care field, a maximum of five years of residence status is granted

  • Although permanent residency and family accompaniment are not permitted, if you obtain a care worker qualification you can transfer to a "caregiving" visa.

A naturalization application is a procedure for foreign nationals to acquire Japanese nationality. If the application is submitted to the Legal Affairs Bureau and approved after an examination, the person will be registered as a Japanese person in the family register.
